Halloween had it’s beginnings in ancient Celtic festival called Samhain (pronounced Sah-ween). It was one of four major holidays. The Celtic calendar year began November First which marked the beginning of winter. It was on this day that Samhain was observed. The Celtics believed that the ghosts of the dead were able to mingle with the living because the souls of all those who had died during the year traveled into the other-world. People gathered to sacrifice animals, fruits, and vegetables. Around the sixth century Pope Gregory decided that instead of fighting with the Celtics beliefs that the Church would institute a new holiday with the express purpose of diverting the old beliefs into new christian beliefs. So to honor all the Saints who did not have their own day of celebration, All Hallows Day was instituted and Assigned November 1st as it’s day of celebration. You can be the judge of how well it work out!
Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh MY! and that’s not all. There are Koala’s that are cute as a button and Monkeys that will make you want to squeeze the stuffing out of them. Precious little Alligators that will put the bite on your Heart. Let’s not forget the Tyrannosaurus and T-Rex Halloween Costumes. They won’t swallow you whole like in Jurassic Park but they will have you eating out of their hands before the night is through.
