Halloween had it’s beginnings in ancient Celtic festival called Samhain (pronounced Sah-ween). It was one of four major holidays. The Celtic calendar year began November First which marked the beginning of winter. It was on this day that Samhain was observed. The Celtics believed that the ghosts of the dead were able to mingle with the living because the souls of all those who had died during the year traveled into the other-world.
